ASSISTANT CONDUCTOR POSITION
About the Orchestra:
The CSO is a top-level community orchestra of eighty musicians. Currently in its 37th season, it is highly respected for both its artistry and commitment to community involvement. The full orchestra presents a series of five programs during the season, including one Family Concert. In addition, smaller groups from within the orchestra make up the CSO Chamber Players, who present two programs. Several of the programs are presented twice: once in a public venue and once in an outreach setting for audiences who have limited access to live, classical music. Membership in the orchestra is open to adult amateurs without audition.
The CSO strives:
• to provide playing experience for interested amateur musicians.
• to afford players a non-pressured atmosphere for improving their abilities.
• to provide a service for the community by performing for such audiences as community schools, the elderly, libraries, etc.
• to provide a channel for the presentation and commissioning of new works.
• to provide an opportunity for its members to perform as soloists with the orchestra.
About the Position:
The Cambridge Symphony Orchestra is looking for an Assistant Conductor for their 2012/2013 season.
The position is a two-year appointment with the possibility of one one-year extension.
Duties include preparing all scores, attending all rehearsals, being prepared to cover in the Music Director’s absence, and assisting the Music Director as needed. Other responsibilities include coordinating the chamber music series in consultation with the Music Director and being present at all public concerts. The Assistant Conductor will also be responsible to the Board of Directors.
Applicants must have conducting experience and outstanding musicianship. All applicants must hold or be working toward at least a Master’s Degree. Current and recent students are encouraged to apply.
Desired qualifications also include the ability to work with a wide variety of skill levels in a positive and structured manner. Knowledge of string technique is helpful (but not required).
Stipend: The position includes a $2,000.00 stipend per year. Podium time is guaranteed, as well as important hands-on experience in all areas of orchestral management.

Please do not send materials hard copy. Selected applicants will be invited for an audition at a regularly scheduled Monday night rehearsal in the spring of 2012. Finalists will be invited to interview with the Board of Directors.
CHAMBER MUSIC COORDINATOR
Cambridge Symphony Orchestra seeks individual(s) to organize and publicize two (2) chamber concert series (one public concert and one outreach concert) with a total of four (4) performances for the Cambridge Symphony Chamber Players.
Job Description is detailed below but not limited to:
- Working with contacts at venues to organize performances.
- Recruiting members of the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra.
- Overseeing the organization and progress of chamber groups.
- Acting as liaison between groups and chamber music coaching.
- Working with volunteer designer to create flyers and programs for the events.
- Publicizing these events for optimal attendance.
- The ideal candidate is outgoing, detail oriented, able to multitask and comfortable speaking in public. You also must be self motivated, work well with others and be committed to outreach.
