Stephanie Scarcella

Hailed by The Boston Globe as a “radiant mezzo,” Stephanie Scarcella originates from Wyoming, but has gladly made New England her home since 2006.
Stephanie has sung with Boston Lyric Opera, Odyssey Opera, Opera Company of Middlebury (VT), St. Petersburg Opera (FL), Arcadia Players, Longwood Opera and Opera on Tap, in addition to presenting solo vocal recitals and performing as a soloist in concert settings. Stephanie is excited to join the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra for the first time as Anita in West Side Story, one of her life long favorite works of art.
Operatic and musical theater roles Stephanie has performed include Anita (West Side Story, Bernstein), Pitti Sing (The Mikado, Gilbert and Sullivan), Arsamene (Serse, Handel), Hansel (Hansel and Gretel, Humperdinck), Sister Helen Prejean (Dead Man Walking, Jake Heggie), Dorthee (Cendrillon, Massenet), Zita (Gianni Schicchi, Puccini), Maestra delle Novizie and Suor Infermiera (Suor Angelica, Puccini), Angelina (La Cenerentola, Rossini) and Zulma (L’Italiana in Algeri, Rossini).
Ms. Scarcella also finds great joy singing in the concert and recital setting. She has sung solos for Carissimi’s Jepthe, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Zelenka’s Magnificat, Johann David Heinichen’s Missa Nr. 9 in D, Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Great Organ Mass, Bach’s St. John Passion, Mozart’s Requiem, Saint-Saens’s Christmas Oratorio and Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. Her recital work has included major works such as Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben, Wolf’s Italienishes Liederbuch, Bernstein’s Peter Pan Songs, Cabaret songs by William Bolcom, Brazilian folk songs with guitar by Laurindo Almeida, Vaughan Williams’s Songs of Travel as well as a variety of selected songs from the English, French and German and Italian repertoires.
​Stephanie received her BM in Vocal Performance, and MM in Opera from The Boston Conservatory. She was a New Orleans District Winner for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and was a Semi-Finalist at the Classical Singer Magazine Competition.
In addition to performing, Stephanie enjoys teaching private voice lessons, as well as her time spent as the mezzo soprano soloist and section leader at The Old North Church in Marblehead, MA. Her hobbies and interests include traveling, cooking, yoga and staying active in the outdoors.
