Who can join the orchestra?
The Cambridge Symphony Orchestra is an all-volunteer orchestra of serious non-professional musicians who come together to perform and share music with our community.
We enjoy a welcoming, inclusive, and professional rehearsal atmosphere for musicians looking for a great musical experience.
We are currently searching in particular for musicians who play trumpet, string bass, and percussion for our upcoming season!
What do I need to do to join the CSO?
Auditions are not required to join the CSO, but acceptance is based on whether or not we have an opening. Our Personnel Manager maintains an active waitlist and will notify you if a suitable position becomes available.
If you are interested in joining the orchestra, please contact Personnel Manager Adam Mauskapf (personnel@cambridgesymphony.org) with playing inquiries, including a summary of your musical experience. You may also fill out the form below.
Player Responsibilities
Attendance
In order to give our best performances, attendance at rehearsals is crucial. As scheduling conflicts do occasionally arise, however, it may be necessary for a player to miss a rehearsal. In the event that you cannot attend a rehearsal or do not intend to play one of the concerts, please notify the Personnel Manager as early as possible beforehand. Wind players are strongly encouraged to recommend a substitute if the Personnel Manager does not already have one in mind.
Musicians who miss more than two regular rehearsals or the dress rehearsal for a given concert may not perform in that concert except by special permission of the Music Director and the Personnel Manager.
Dues
To offset a portion of CSO operating expenses, orchestra players are required to pay a non-refundable annual orchestra membership fee of $300, due on the second rehearsal after a full-time player begins participation. Dues scholarships are available for those with a financial need.
