The Journey of Phillis Wheatley, Nkeiru Okoye
featuring Carmen Hicks, narrator
Violin Concerto, Pyotr Tchaikovsky
Finale
featuring Talia Kee, violin
We encourage families to bring children of all ages to our annual Family Concert. This concert is a wonderful introduction to the varied styles of the orchestra.
The centerpiece of the concert will be Nkeiru Okoye’s The Journey of Phillis Wheatley, a musical story about a famous African-American poet in eighteenth-century Boston, with text by Carolivia Herron. This story will be narrated by the CSO’s own Carmen Hicks.
We are also pleased to invite young artist Talia Kee to the stage. Talia will perform the final movement of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the orchestra.
After the concert, children are invited to our instrument petting zoo, where they can try out string, woodwind, and brass instruments themselves.
The Cambridge Symphony Orchestra thanks the Massachusetts Cultural Council for supporting our 2017-18 season.
